Phoenix House

The Twin Otters Foundation (TTOF)

Background to the Project

The Foundation was registered in Nepal as a Not-For-Profit (NFP) NGO under the Social Welfare Council (SWC), was established by individuals who have themselves been victims of poverty and drug abuse as children. The objective of the foundation solely rests on helping children who have been victims of extreme poverty and harassment which led them to the ill ways of life. The Foundation will simply enroll such addicted children in well-established rehabilitation centers and then decide on whether putting them into schools or giving them the skills required for the job industry so that they may be able to make a living out of it.
The aim of the Foundation which was to first identify the areas where these kids were living and getting involved in socially irresponsible behaviors has been met after a thorough field work and research for more than ten years. Now the main objective of the Foundation is to collect the necessary funds from interested donors all around the world to give the project the green signal.

Phoenix House

“Charity begins on the street when you are homeless.”
This is our new project in Nepal. It will be a home for Street Children in Kathmandu, orphaned after the Earthquake in 2015.
This will be funded from the Shiva Gautam’s Monty’s Restaurant ‘Help Nepal Rise Again’ Fund. The project will be carried out in association with the ‘Twin Otters Foundation’ (https://www.facebook.com/TwinOtters/) and coordinated by our good TOUCH Nepal friends Dinesh Khadka and Birendra Dawadi. The first installment of funding has been sent out and the Ground Work on the site has begun!

During our visit to Nepal in November ‘18 we went to visit the site for Phoenix House .

‘Twin Otters’ in Kathmandu that looks after street children boys in particular following their rehabilitation. Presently they are renting the ground floor in a house and are in great need of more space and their own play area.

The construction is well underway and is being constructed with earthquake proof specifications.

There will be 2 dormitories, kitchen, bathroom, toilets, store room and Guardians room.

We then walked through the cobbles of Kathmandu to the temporary accommodation of the children. It is a beautiful house and a lovely family who have taken the children in, they treat them as their own children and this is so evident. Here we met the 11 boys and gave out the presents so kindly given to us by our friends at home. We met with the Committee of ‘The Twin Otters’ to discuss the building and the setting up of a child sponsorship scheme for the boys to help with their education.

Phoenix House for Street Children in Kathmandu, Nepal flying up! Our friends at The Twin Otters in Kathmandu are working hard on the building of the new home for the children funded by TOUCH Ireland.

The Roof is on and plastering inside and outside is well under way. This is shaping up to being a great Christmas/New Year present from TOUCH Ireland, Monty’s of Kathmandu Restaurant and the ‘Help Nepal Rise Again’ Fund to these children. Well done once again to Dinesh, Birendra, Dev & Khem from the Twin Otters. Great work by everyone all working together!!!

Construction is going well. They are busy with painting and putting up the false ceilings at the moment. Also an underground reservoir is being constructed.

This is a fine new centre rising from the Ashes of the 2015 Earthquake to take care of some children being left homeless and alone as a result of this terrible event.

The Official Opening Of Phoenix House

So Well done Shiva, Lina, Dinesh, Birendra, Sukdev and Kemraj and all concerned from TOUCH Ireland with this project. These children now have a great chance at a good future.

‘And yes, we are rising like a Phoenix!’ Thanks to  TOUCH Ireland Foundation – ‘A Totally Voluntary Charity Working for Children, and they became our first official donor who was ready to help the struggling kids to build up the house for them’. The Twin Otters
