TOUCH Ireland new Construction Project 2014/2015

Guardian’s Angels Community School Block, Lusaka, Zambia

Plan for New School Block

Chilanga compounds are situated in the district of Chilanga, which is on the outskirts of Lusaka. These compounds are made up of grass and mud huts in which families live.
The huts generally have one room to sleep six to eight people depending on the size of the families. There is overcrowding as these huts are built very close together and the lack of sanitary facilities is a big problem. Food is very scarce and there is a lot of sickness. Some of the young children are caring for parents and siblings in the late stages of HIV/AIDS related illnesses.
This will be the third phase of this project having already constructed two school Blocks

The school now offers these children a safe environment where they can receive attention, food and education.
The first school block is up and running since 2002 and was registered as the Guardian Angels Community School and catered for 150 children approx.
In 2006 TOUCH Ireland funded a second School Block, Kitchen/Dining Shelter and Toilets. This allowed for a food programme to support the school

As a result of the growing need for more space to accommodate the number of vulnerable children in the area that have started going to the school the local management committee has requested our assistance.

At Present there are 250 children (approx) attending this School
